Established in 1985 by Maria and Nikos Monovasios, Nikoulias Restaurant is located 150 meters south of the main beach of Platys Gialos; directly below it is Mesiano, a second, much smaller but very lovely beach with natural shade provided by the tamarisk trees. It is a simple place, unadorned but well-tended, with tables and chairs beside the waves of the blue Aegean and with a view that takes your breath away. It offers authentic flavors, well cooked and well served: delectably cooked fresh sea food delicacies or succulent meat from the grill to your plate, served with local wine! Open from March to October.
Nikoulias family tavern, overlooks the crystal clear waters of Mesiano beach, so stop by after a cooling dip. It’s an ideal place to get your Greek classics: moussaka, ghemista, imam and local lamp. It’s best accompanied with a decanter of Serifiotiko wine, of which Nikoulias has many palate-pleasing choices.
Meet our chef
Aris Monovasios is the son of Maria and Nikos. He began helping his parents at a young age, where he discovered his love for cooking. Soon he learned from his mother the secrets of the traditional Greek cuisine. He continued on to study culinary and pastry arts for three years in Le Monde Athens. All the while he helped improved the restaurant, without letting it loose its identity.
